University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is upgrading and expanding facilities at its central campus through a series of projects totaling $168,272,609. These initiatives include new patient care areas, surgical and imaging improvements, and infrastructure enhancements. Below is a factual snapshot of each project’s status as of early 2026.

8th Floor Thomason Tower Observation Beds

  • Location: 8th floor, UMC Central Campus
  • Project Manager: Cumming Group (Contract executed October 2025)
  • Architect: Leo A Daly (Design complete November 2025)
  • General Contractor: RFP issued December 2025, bids due January 23, 2026
  • Current Phase: General Contractor RFP (February 2026), construction begins March 2026
